Kalam memorial at APJ Abdul Kalam Tech. Uni., Lucknow

Lucknow: A 100-feet high obelisk is being built by APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) at Lucknow to pay tribute to the ‘Missile Man’ in a unique way. This obelisk will be the first of its kind in any educational institution of the country. Rising from a pool of water in a subterranean basement, the obelisk has been designed in such a way that it reflects the life and personality of Dr. Kalam who rose from a poor family of fishermen to hold the highest post in the country. The designers of this obelisk are (Ms.) Vandana Sehgal and (Ms.) Rita Gulati, according to whom the stainless steel finish of this obelisk will represent Dr. Kalam’s immaculate life and career. According to Rita Gulati, the design of the tower is a structural feat and the objects around the obelisk will be reflected in it. The obelisk is one-of-its-kind helical or spiral tower not only in UP but in the whole country. The foundation stone of this University (AKTU) building was laid on 15 October last year (2015).
