Saqib Nachan not allowed to sit in Etekaf

New Delhi: Saqib Nachan of banned SIMI, an accused in Mulund bomb blast of 2003, was not allowed by the POTA court here to sit in Etekaf which is a form of worship in which devout Muslims seclude themselves in a mosque during the last ten days of Ramadan and come out only after the crescent of the Eid is sighted. Nachan, on bail now since 31 January this year alongwith 15 others accused in the said blast, had requested the court to be allowed to sit in Etekaf in a mosque in his native village of Padgha near Mumbai. According to the terms of the bail, he is required to report to a local police station once a week as well as to report at the court whenever required. The judge accepted the prosecutors’ argument that Nachan will be out of touch during this time and the authorities will not know his activities.
