Prof. WASEEM BARELVI, a great Urdu poet of international fame, has been appointed Vice Chairman of National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL). Born in Bareli, his seven anthologies of poems have been published including one in Dev Nagri script. He has been honoured with many literary awards.
ZUBER bin SAGHIRhas been appointed new District Magistrate (DM) of Saharanpur in place of Chaub Singh Verma who has been promoted to a higher post. It may be stated that Zuber bin Saghir's appointment is significant in the sense that he is the first Muslim to be appointed D.M. of Saharanpur after 64 years i.e. after Independence. He is famous for his sincerity and devotion to duty.
Prof. E.M. ZUBERIof Women's College, Hindi Section has been appointed President of AMU's Department of Hindi for a period of two years in place of former President Prof. R.C. Sharma whose term is completed. Another appointment is that of Prof. ANIL KUMAR who has been appointed President of Department of Pharmacology in AMU's J.N. Medical College in place of Prof. Rahat Ali Khan after completion of his term as head of this Department. Prof. Anil Kumar's appointment is for three years.
FARZAND AHMAD, prominent journalist has been appointed Information Commissioner of Bihar. He will be sworn in as the new IC on 25 August by state governor Dev Anand. His appointment for this post was hailed by journalist fraternity who said in a joint statement that during the period of his service with UNI and India Today, he not only demonstrated his good performance but also maintained high standard of journalistic ethics.
Ms. SABA ANJUM,centre forward and striker, has been appointed captain of the India Women's Hockey team which will take part in Champion's Trophy. Four teams of Women's Hockey were at the top among other teams in this category which had participated in last year's Asian games played at Gwangjhu. Four teams which were at the top in this game (Asian Games) were from India, China, South Korea and Japan. Games for Champion's Trophy will be played in September at the same venue as last year.
Bazigha Badard/o Dr. Badruddin Bhat, has been awarded  Ph.D in Environmental Science by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K)for her dissertation on "Integrated Impact Analysis of Environmental and Socio-economic Factors on Population Status of Dal Lake using Geo-spatial Tools" completed under the joint supervision of Prof.  M.A.Khan of SKUAST-K and Dr. Shakeel A. Romshoo of the Dept. of Geology, Geophysics and Geo-informatics, University of Kashmir, Srinagar.
