CBI summons six cops in Ghaziabad encounter case

A CBI court in Ghaziabad has summoned six policemen alleged to have killed two men, Rais and Firoz, in an encounter on 3 March 2009 at Indirapuram in Ghaziabad when they were allegedly trying to rob a car. The victims’ families have claimed that the two men were picked up by six policemen from Sahibabad vegetable market at night before they were killed in an encounter. After large-scale popular protests, police had lodged an FIR against six policemen on 5 March 2009.  When police’s final report denied allegations, victims’ families moved Ghaziabad court where six witnesses stated that they saw six policemen taking away these two men in a police van for questioning. The court has issued summons against six cops under section 302, 364, 201, 120b of the IPC.
