Six families celeberate Eid after eight years of agony

Ahmadabad: The families of six persons acquitted in the Haren Pandya case celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with fervour. They had to spend eight agonising years waiting for this happiness. Past seven Eids saw them in great distress, anxiety writ over their faces praying for the safe return of their dear ones.

Yunus Sareshwala, the only brother in a family of four sisters, was the sole comfort of their mother Khadija Bai. The two went together to greet their relatives – Happy Eid! Yunus! Eldest sister Saleha thanked Allah and the state High Court for her brother’s acquittal. Incidentally, Eid, this time had triple happiness – Eid, Yunus’ release and Khadija’s birthday. Never had the family felt so much happiness in the past. May their happiness last long! Amen.

Riyaz Sareshwala’s 79 year old father Abdul Wahid told Gujarat Today that his son was falsely implicated and the entire family was plunged in gloom. Till now there was not a single festival that they could enjoy in the absence of their dear one. He now feels that all his ailments have suddenly vanished and is now thinking of getting Riyaz married at the earliest.

Parvez Qayyum Shaikh, who ran a courier agency then, finds himself without any financial support. His aunt Shaheen Banu recalled that for the last eight years the family could not celebrate Eid.
