Kashmiri women’s sordid tales of suffering

Srinagar: International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women was organised under the stunning acknowledgment that the past 21 years have brought unfathomable distress to Kashmiri women. While 93,215 persons were killed by armed forces (or police) including 2288 women; 9984 were sexually assaulted. 2,744 women turned into widows. Thus whether they lose their fathers, brothers, sons or husbands Kashmir women are the ultimate sufferers. These facts were released in a report on the occasion of the international day. The report records incidents of human rights violations which had a devastating impact on them. Every woman, championing the cause of freedom, had to undergo the agony of sexual violation. Thousands of young men have been made to disappear (forcibly) bringing additional pain to their suffering. One lakh women have been subjected to mental agony and have turned mentally challenged. This is what armed forces have gifted to them. Yet, Arundhati is accused of inciting sedition for expressing the concerns of these miserable women.
