Free Muslim youths implicated in terror cases - Asrarul Haq to PM

Maulana Asraul Haq QasmiNew Delhi: Maulana Asraul Haq Qasmi, Member of Parliament from Kishanganj (Bihar) today wrote a letter to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh asking him to set free Muslim youths held in cases which are now commonly believed to be the handiwork of saffron terrorists. Following is the text of his letter:

Respected Sir,

I wish to draw your kind attention to a number of new developments, arrests and the judicial confession of Swami Aseemanand which have offered a totally different picture of terrorism in India. Hitherto, it was normal for our media to rush to blame Muslim youths and for the security agencies to start arresting them blindly as soon as any terrorist incident took place. Though there were ample leads since the investigations of Martyr Hemant Karkare, the then chief of the Maharashtra ATS and indicators in the chargesheet filed by him in the Malegaon blast 2008 case, the leads were not pursued and investigations were not taken to their logical end, e.g., in the case of the Samjhauta Express blast.

As a result of the biased approach of investigation agencies, thousands of Muslim youths are languishing in jails, mostly without trial. Their careers stand ruined for ever. Others have been let off after years of incarceration and torture. As a result of new evidence, saffron terrorists are now held responsible for many of these blasts.

The current investigations should focus on all saffron outfits which have mushroomed in all parts of our country and are either indulging in or supporting saffron terror. The Malegaon chargesheet clearly shows that they are planning to overthrow the constitutional framework of India and have contacts with foreign powers like Israel – a clear case of high treason.

It is high time that the government takes initiative to set free these Muslim youths, apologise to them and pay them adequate compensation commensurate to their loss as both their education and careers stay ruined for ever. Officers found to have misused their power to implicate and torture these youths should also be adequately punished.

Our country cannot be safe and secure until our agencies start working without bias and treat all citizens according to law. Clear orders and directives should be issued to all these agencies to be fair and law-abiding in all their investigations. Discontent among any group or community due to the biased approach of some agencies and officers is injurious to the health and security of our nation.

Yours sincerely,

(Mohammad Asrarul Haque)
