Dr Syeda Saiyidain Hameed, Member Planning Commission, GoI, launched a cookbook for kids at the India International Centre on Thursday, 1 March 2012. The book, called How to Feed Your Kids: And Enjoy is written by a London-based doctor, Dr Tabinda J Burney and is written from the point of view of a hands-on mother who is staying away from the usual support systems but wishes to feed her children nutritious and traditional food. Dr Burney has studied at Lady Hardinge College and worked at several hospitals in Delhi, including Moolchand and Apollo Hospital. She now works for an NHS Hosital in London and specialises in Respiratory Medicine.

How to Feed your Child : And Enjoy is all about feeding children traditionally Indian yet nutritionally sound foods. Being a doctor, the author has brought in subjects like food allergies, superfoods, and several scientific ideas into making healthy but fuss-free meals for young children. The book, and the ideas behind it, borrow from the ways our mothers and grandmothers cooked and also examines the methods and ingredients involved in traditional recipes, modifying some of them to make easy-to-prepare foods that are also palatable and attractive for children. The book is especially valuable for working mothers for whom time is a precious commodity but what is more important is the need to feed her child the best possible food she can. (Rakhshanda Jalil)
