Indian-American Muslims demand release of Journalist Kazmi

Washington DC; April 9, 2012: The Washington DC based NGO of Indian Muslims who live in North America, Association of Indian Muslims of America (AIM), today issued an appeal to Mr Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, demanding the immediate release of Indian journalist Kazmi of New Delhi who was arrested by the Indian police about a month ago.

Kazmi was arrested about a month ago on the suspicion of being complicit with some Irani nationals in the bombing an Israeli diplomat's car in New Delhi.  As of now the police has presented no evidence of Kazmi's involvement in the said crime and has not charged him.  Yet the police is continuing to hold him in custody.  Many reputed organizations of Indian journalists, Indian human rights organizations and other NGOs have held rallies in the last month demanding that Kazmi be released.

Maulana Kalbe Javvad, a promimnent leader of Muslims in North India has held many protest rallies demanding Kazmi's release and has now given a call for civil disobedience street agitations to support the demand.

Speaking on behalf of the Association of Indian Muslims of America (AIM), Kaleem Kawaja said that his organization supports the rallies and civil disobedience agitation that Maulana Kalbe Javvad and other Muslim and non-Muslim leaders are organizing in India to bring about the release of Kazmi. Kawaja also said that the Indian police has arrested Kazmi on false allegations  simply to please the Israeli government and there appears to be absolutely no evidence that either Kazmi or any Irani nationals were involved in this crime.
