J&K govt implicating innocents: PDP

Srinagar: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on December 9 accused the ruling alliance partner National Conference (NC) of implicating ‘innocents’ in stone-pelting to extort money from them.   “NC is busy identifying innocent people for arrest on charges of stone throwing and extorting money from them”, said the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti in a statement issued here. She said “the worst kind of repression has been let loose on people of Srinagar in particular with its youth facing major brunt. Hundreds of them have been arrested whereas many others have been forced underground”. Referring to unemployment problem facing youth of Srinagar, Mehbooba said even though their counterparts in rural areas too find it difficult to get jobs, plight of urban youth was a cause of greater concern as they don’t have an option to work in the fields. She stated people of Srinagar had taken a severe hit from the failure of consecutive tourist seasons that had affected all the sections of society and resulted in job crunch.
