Noted poet and BSP leader ANWAR JALALPURI was appointed the Chairman of the UP Madrasa Board on 24 December 2010 for a term of 3 years.

Advocate BABU SHAMIM AHMAD ALVI, became the first Muslim president of Kirana Bar Association, UP on 22 December 2010. Mr. Alvi secured 88 votes as against his closest rival Advocate Kaushal Prasad’s 77 votes in the annual bar association election for the year 2010.

Congress leader ASLAM KHURSHEED was chosen for Muradabad city president by the AICC high command on 23 December 2010. He holds the post for the third time.

Dr. IZHAR AHMAD took over the charges as the chairman of the assessment committee of the 43rd Bihar assembly on 31 Dec. 2010 and held its first meeting. The assessment committee will look into the preparation implementation and monitoring of the allotments made to or for different ministries/departments of the governments. The committee will also present a report to the assembly and play a pivotal role in implementation and performances of the government.

Dr. G.R. JAN took over as the new Director of the Centre of Central Asian Studies, Kashmir University on 8 Dec. 2010. Dr. Jan is an expert on Persian Language and has published more than 20 research papers in national and international journals.

Mr. JAVED MAHMOOD of Janata Dal United was appointed State spokesman for the second time on 20 Dec. 2010.

Maulana QARI SYED MUHAMMAD USMAN Mansoorpuri, President of Jamiatul Ulama-e-Hind (JUH) and Hadees teacher at Darul Uloom Deoband was elected fourth Ameerul-Hind by a representative body of 19 members in the presence of more than one thousand delegates comprising of Ulama, religious leaders and scholars etc from all over the country at Madni Hall, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi on 30 December in the election meeting of Amarat-e-Sharayya Hind. Formal announcement about Maulana Mansoorpui’s election was made by Maulana Abdul Aziz of Andhra Pradesh, a member of Darul Ulom Deoband’s Majlis Shoora.

Maulana MAHMOOD MADNI, Jamiatul Ulama-e-Hind (JUH) leader has been appointed general secretary of JUH by its President Maulana Qari Muhammad Usman Mansoorpuri for the current term at the Executive Committee meeting of Jamiatul Ulama-e-Hind. Maulana Mahmood Madni was for the first time appointed JUH’s general secretary in 2001 and was regularly appointed for that post till 2008.

AKHTAR RAZA ibn Israel Ansari has been conferred PhD degree by Gorakhpur University for his research treatise on ‘Majnoon Gorakhpuri ki Hayat wa Adabi Kaarnamay’ which he wrote and completed under the supervision of Dr. Mahmood Raziur Rahman, Persident of the University’s Department of Urdu.

Twenty-two-year old KAMAL KHAN of Patiala, an upcoming singer has won the Sa Ray Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar 2010 Crown, beating well-known competitors and singers like (Ms) Abhilasha Chellam of Pune and Baisakh Jyoti of Kolkata at a music competition. On an earlier occasion also he won an important singing competition in a Punjab TV show. He had joined Honours course in music from a government College in Patiala and had also got a one-year scholarship at AR Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory in Chennai for learning music.

ATEEQ SAJID was unanimously elected chairman of Delhi state branch of All India Jamiatul Quraish for the period 2010-2014. The election was held at the Central office of All India Jamiatul Quraish, Quraish Nagar, New Delhi on 4 January, 2011.

Dr. MUHAMMAD YUSUF QURAISHI, advocate has been elected chairman of UP branch of All India Jamiatul Quraish at Lucknow.

ATIF SUHRAWARDYATIF SUHRAWARDY, a student of Amity University, Delhi who secured maximum marks in Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) was honoured with Gold Medal at the University’s Convocation held on 18 Dec. 2010. The Medal was given to him by Supreme Court’s Justice Mrkande Katju in the presence of a distinguished gathering which included among others, Dr. Ashok Chauhan, Founder President of Amity University, Hon. Judges of Supreme Court and High Court B.S. Chauhan and A.P. Sahi respectively. Atif Suhrawardy is the only student of Law who was honoured with Gold Medal for excellent performance. He is the grandson of well-known columnist-economist Saeed Suhrawardy.
