Allama Shibli Nomani was among the tallest figures among Indian Muslim scholars of the last century. He was a man with mission and during a small life span, his works were unmatched by his contemporaries, predecessors and followers.

He was born in 1857 and died in 1914. He started his professional career as a faculty member at the then newly established M. A. O. College in Aligarh and died as an architect of a think tank, Darul Musannefin in Azamgarh. M. A. O. College later became Aligarh Muslim University and Darul Musannefin became Darul Musannefin Shibli Academy.

The foundation of the Islamic seminary, Darul Uloom of Nadwatul Ulama is also a brain-child of Allama Shibli Nomani where he served as the Founding Secretary in its early years. Books like Al-Farooq, Al-Mamoon, Al-Ghazali, Siratun Nabi and many others of high standard were penned by him.

Volumes of books were written by his contemporaries and followers to highlight his work, style and thoughts. Numerous poems were also written in his praise. But the poems written to highlight his work and style were at different places and no biblography were available. Shibli Sukhanwaron Ki Nazar mein is a unique book compiled by Dr. Muhammad Ilyas Azami, Honorary Rafiq (Scholar) of Darul Musannefin Shibli Academy.

Dr. Azmi compiled the poems written by Allama Shibli’s contemporaries and followers and brought them at one place. The poems were written by poets like Allama Iqbal, Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali, Deputy Nazir Ahmad, Khushi Mohammad Nazir, Maulana Hamiduddin Farahi, Maulana Iqbal Suhail, Kaifi Azmi and Ahmad Ali Barqi Azmi and many others. He also included articles written to explain or criticise the poetry of this great Islamic scholar and reformer. Eminent Aligarian and former Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University and the present Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, Saiyid Hamid wrote the preface of the book.

The book can be ordered from Darul Musannefin Shibli Academy, Azamgarh and Educational Book House, Shamshad Market (AMU Market) Aligarh.
