Ban on SIMI again extended for 2 years

New Delhi: Central government (Home Ministry) has once again extended the ban on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) for two years from 7 February '10 onwards under Prevention of Illegal Activities Act 1967 on the recommendation of security agencies.The earlier ban expired on 7 February '10. The ban on SIMI was first imposed in September 2001 during the BJP-led NDA government. Thereafter it was further extended again and again in 2003, 2006 and last time it was imposed for 2 years from 8 February 2008 onwards.
