SIT seeks amicus curiae in Ishrat 'fake' encounter case

The Special Investigation Team investigating Ishrat Jahan police encounter has filed an application in Gujarat High Court seeking appointment of a legal expert in order to facilitate probe and at the same time to assist in various court proceedings. Ishrat Jahan was killed along with three others in an encounter in 2004. The High Court has formed the SIT comprising Gujarat-cadre IPS officers, Mohan Jha and Satish Verma, being the other two members. SIT has also sought permission from the CBI Court to question police officers D G Vanzara and N K Amin both accused in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case and presently in jail. Gujarat Police had claimed that Ishrat and the three others were LeT operatives on a mission to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi. A report by Judicial Magistrate, S P Tamang had last year said that the encounter was fake and was carried out in cold blood by policemen for personal interest.”
