Death by police bullets leads to violence and burning of police station

Ghaziabad: Police firing on some youths who were betting on India-Sri Lanka cricket match led to the death of one Parvez in Vat village in Sambhavali block on Meerut-Delhi road on 16 November and infuriated people of the village who, numbering about a thousand indulged in violence, burnt some UP roadways buses and many private vehicles, enforced a traffic jam and also set fire to the police station. Even the car of the SDM of Garh was set on fire. The SDM and many police personnel of police station ran for their lives. All this happened on 16 November.

Senior Police officers along with police reinforcements reached the spot on being informed of the serious situation and brought the situation under control. The government, however, took the matter very seriously. Additional Director General of Police AK Jain said that police officers KK Asthana, DSP Rajpal Singh, SHO Kanwarpal Singh and police constable Sudhir Kumar who had fired at Parvez resulting in his death have been suspended. Further action against those who indulged in violence and burning of vehicles and police station etc is being taken after investigation.
