Abdul Hafiz Lakhani's son dies in accident

Ahmedabad's senior Muslim journalist Abdul Hafiz Lakhani, MG’s Gujarat correspondent, suffered a great loss when his son Mohammad Uzair (aged 14) was crushed by a speeding truck at Juhapura circle near Al-Fazal Masjid on 17 November. Uzair was on his way to Darul-Uloom at this masjid to attend his religious classes. The boy was a class 8 student of Diwan Ballubhai School in Paldi. M. Uzair Lakhani was a brilliant student. He stood first in an essay writing competition held by the Gujarat Urjaa Department. He was active in sports and was interested in computers. The deeply pious child dreamed of serving in the Indian Armed Forces. He used to participate in the NCC programmes held in his school. Uzair had earned the honour of becoming a Hafiz-e Qur'an at the tender age of 12 which is an achievement especially when he always got more than 80 percent marks in his school tests. Apart from late Uzair, Lakhani has a son, Usama, and daughter Uzma, both of whom are students of Diwan Balubhai School.
