RSS goes door-to-door against terror charges

In a damage control mode after Aseemanand’s confession, RSS has begun a six-week door-to-door campaign from 1 January to refute the terror charges.  RSS is worried in the aftermath of the confession by Aseemanand and investigations carried out on about 40 RSS activists in connection with the Ajmer Sharif, Malegaon, Samjhauta Express and Mecca Masjid blasts. The mass campaign was decided by the RSS during the Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarini meet in Jalgaon last October. RSS activists are required to inform as many households within their reach to explain that the recent terror charges against RSS are to spoil Sangh’s image. Swayasevaks from various RSS organisation along with members of BJP will go door to door till end of February to inform people that RSS as an organisation has nothing to do with any terror activities. RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav said, “We will tell the people it is a political design to defame the RSS, and it is also sending a wrong signal to the world outside about the Hindu community as a whole.” However, the other concern for the RSS is that there has been sharp decline in the number of RSS shakhas across the country. The number of its shakhas has fallen from 43905 in 2008-09 to 39823 in 2009-10. In this regard, RSS has also planned to organise its own Kumbh Mela on the lines of the original Kumbh Melas. RSS Kumbh Mela will be named “Samajik Samrasta Kumbh” and it will be held in Madhya Pradesh during 10-12 February.
