IGNOU’s new programmes in Urdu and Arabic

New Delhi: IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University)’s School of Humanities and School of Foreign Languages have introduced two new courses in Urdu and Arabic languages. Students can now enroll themselves in either the January or July 2011 session for these courses. Whereas the School of Humanities has introduced a BA (elective) course in Urdu in addition to its existing certificate/diploma course, the School of Foreign Languages has introduced a certificate course in Arabic. The University has introduced these courses because of their importance in Indian history and heritage.

The students, for pursuing Urdu language course at BA level, should be proficient in Urdu and should have studied it as a subject at the 10+2 level. Diploma holders from IGNOU in this language also are eligible for admission. This course can also be studied at Diploma level. The certificate course in Arabic will enable the beginners to have a working knowledge of Arabic grammar, reading, writing and speaking and also understanding comprehension. Details about these courses can be had from the prospectus as well as IGNOU’s website:
