Darul Uloom Deoband’s budget for the current year

Deoband: The annual budget of Darul Uloom Deoband for the current financial year i.e., 1432 Hijri (2010-11 CE) was unanimously approved on 11 January at income of Rs 17,79,45,000 and expenditure of Rs 16,05,50,000 for its different activities, including Rs 3 crore for building and construction of library and Rs one crore for building of hostel. This meeting of 11 January of the two day session of Majlis-e Shoora was chaired by Maulana Muhammad Ya’qoob, member of Majlis-e Shoora. In this meeting a decision was also taken about 5% increase, in view of the increasing cost of living, of the salaries of employees. Another important decision taken by Majlis-e Shoora was the appointment of deputy Mohtamim (Rector) Maulana Abdul Kahliq Madrasi as Incharge of Media Cell. On the first day of the 2-day session of Majlis-e Shoora, Maulana Ghulam Muhammad Vastanvi was elected new Mohtamim of Darul Uloom in place of late Maulana Marghoobur Rahman who had died on 8 December 2010. It may be stated in this connection that contrary to Indian government’s financial year which starts from April of a year and ends with the month of March next year, Darul Uloom Deoband even today follows lunar calendar for the fixation of dates, months and year. Accordingly whereas its financial year starts from Muharram, first month of Islamic Calendar and ends with Zil-Hijj, the last month, its academic year is from the Arabic month of Shawwal (i.e., 10th month in which Eid falls) to Sh’abaan i.e., the month before Ramadan.
