Communal tension in Udaipur

Jaipur: A minor tiff between two friends of different communities took a communal turn leading to a clash between Hindus and Muslims. According to reports, two friends, Raees and Mohan of Naya Kheda village of Udaipur district (Rajasthan) were having drinks together. A joke by one of them angered the other and the two indulged in verbal duel. As they were having heated arguments, Raees thrashed Mohan who kept quiet at that time but went to his residence and returned with a crowd of about 150 members of his community. As they were preparing to go to Raees’ residence to take revenge, police got news of this, rushed  to the spot and tried to pacify the agitated crowd. Some persons in the crowd started pelting stones at the police resulting in head injuries to Thana Incharge Ram Lal and constable Sujan Singh. On the other hand, Muslims also gathered there and stone-pelting followed between the two sides. The situation was somehow brought under control by the police. On Mohan’s complaint against Raees in the police station, he was arrested and a case registered against him. This happened on 30 January. Next day police held a joint meeting of representatives of the two communities and peace was restored.
