Canadian Sikhs oppose visa to Modi

Ottawa: “World Sikh Organisation” of Canadian Sikhs has opposed Canadian proposal to invite Narendra Modi. In a letter addressed to Canadian Immigration Chief, Jesson Keney, and other government officials the organisation has opposed the department’s proposal to grant visa to Modi. Senior policy counsellor Gyan Singh Sandhu has expressed his agony on department’s policy of ignoring the opinions of bodies such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. Reminding that during the 2002 carnage in Gujarat, Modi had given a free deal to rioters which resulted in massacre of more than 2000 Muslims and that the government also failed to investigate the pogrom thoroughly and impartially, the organisation demanded that Modi should not be invited. Chairperson of the World Sikh Organisation, Premsingh Winninge, expressed his surprise when he met former Canadian High Commissioner to India Peter Sutherlanod He raised his objection as human rights activist for overlooking Modi’s past which is so disgusting that the National Human Rights Commission had also found him guilty of suppressing the minorities.
