Seminar on Arabic in India

A two-day national seminar on Arabic literature in India was held at the Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi during 6-7 February. The seminar discussed the past, present and future of Arabic in India. Besides teachers of Arabic from various Indian universities, the seminar also attracted professors from some Saudi Arabian universities who addressed broader perspectives of Arabic in the world today, especially in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Zafarul-Islam Khan delivered the keynote address on “Arabic in India - an overview” at the inaugural session (see the text of the address on p. 9 in this issue).
