Custodial death case: four cops suspended

Kanpu: Four police personnel were suspended on 16 March in connection with the alleged custodial death of a person, detained for interrogation in Kanpur, officials said. Mukesh, a resident of the city, was allegedly picked up by police from Anandpuri area here on March 4 and detained for interrogation in a case related to the trade of narcotic substance. His body was later found in a village of Kanpur (Dehat) district on March 10. A panel of three doctors which performed the post mortem of the body had confirmed that Mukesh had been strangled to death. "Four police personnel of Rail Bazar police station have been suspended in connection with the alleged custodial death of Mukesh," Kanpur DIG Prem Prakash said. Inspector of Rail Bazar police station J.B. Pandey has already been arrested on March 14 on charges of kidnapping and killing Mukesh. Police on 15 March exhumed the body after getting permission from the district administration.
