Minorities Cell in NIOS wound up by School management

New Delhi: The management of National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has closed down minorities cell in the school, a complaint against which has been made by the chairman of Muslim Intelligentsia Forum, Dr. Anwar Pasha, to government with a demand that government should grant accreditation to the educational institutions of Muslims like maktabs, madrasas and darul ulooms etc so that students reading in these institutions could be brought into the national stream. He said that with this aim in mind, former chairman and secretary of NIOS, Dinesh Singh Bisht had set up an independent Minorities Cell by giving it special rights and identity and associated it with NIOS so as to safeguard it against biased and unscrupulous members of bureaucracy. For this purpose Dinesh Bisht had also specially appointed three Muslim officers who had been performing their duties very well.

But, according to Dr. Anwar Pasha, as soon as Mr. Bisht left, the independent position of Minorities Cell was brought to and end and it was merged with other departments and the extension of service of the three Muslim officers was also made uncertain. Dr. Anwar Pasha in letters sent to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, minorities affairs minister Salman Khurshid and chairman of National Minorities Commission informed them of the conspiracy of closing down the Minorities Cell in the NIOS.
