Silent march to protest fake Batla House Encounter

Azamgarh: On 9 April, Association for Welfare, Medical, Educational and Legal Assistance (AWMELA), organised a peaceful march to protest the fake Batla House Encounter. The march was led by Dr. Javed Akhtar, President AWMELA, along with Maulana Intikhab Alam, Imam of Jama Masjid, Azamgarh and Imams of different mosques of the city. People from all walks of life marched from Paharpur Tiraha to DM’s office in dignified silence. Marchers were holding banners and placards with slogans like: "Batla House Encounter Fake - Who said? National Human Rights Commission", "Manmohan, Sonia, Chidambaram - kaise rahe unka bharam qaim", "Mohan Chand Sharma ko marne wali goli kahan hai?", "Hindu-Muslim unity - Zindabad", "Ban Indian Mujahideen" etc.

A delegation of AMWELA presented two memorandums to the DM - one was addressed to the President of India and the other to Governor of U.P.  Prominent demands were: an apology from the P.M. particularly to the parents of martyred Atif and Sajid and to the whole Muslim community in particular; time-bound high level probe in all fake encounters; immediate release of all arrested in connection to fake Batla House Encounter; Ban on "Indian Mujahideen" if such an organization exists.
