SARFARAZ AHMAD SIDDIQI, secretary of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee and a member of Union steel ministry’s Steel Consumers Council has been appointed a member of Delhi Building & Other Constructions Welfare Board by Delhi government. He is also the general secretary of Bhartiya Dalit Mukti Morcha and Convener of All India Muslim Rights Protection Council.


MUJIBULLAH ZUBERI, Reader in AMU’s Department of Electrical Engineering has been appointed OSD in the Controller of Examinations in addition to his existing duties till further orders. As OSD he will report only to the Controller of Examinations and perform his duties in accordance with the directions of Controller of Examinations.


Ms RAHILA KHATOON, a blind research scholar in AMU’s Department of Urdu has been conferred PhD Degree by this University for her thesis on Ahmad Jamal Pasha ki Adabi Khidmaat which she completed under the supervision of Prof Muhammad Ameen. She is probably the first blind research scholar of Urdu to have been conferred PhD Degree.


ZAFAR GULZAR, a research scholar in Meerut’s Chaudhary Charan Singh University’s Department of Urdu has been conferred Ph D Degree by the University on his research work on Khurshidul Islam: A study of his poetry and critical works which he completed under the supervision of Dr Aslam Jamshedpuri, head of this University’s Urdu Department.


Prof. R.R. SHUKL, Director of Institute of Ophthalmology of AMU has been appointed new Incharge of SS Unit in the Department of Community Medicine in place of Prof. Fatema Jilani who has retired. An ‘at home’ was held in the University on 12 February to bid farewell to Prof Fatema Jilani and to welcome Prof. Shukl.


SHAHZAD ABBASI of Abbasi Welfare Society has been elected President and ABDUL MAJID elected general secretary of Delhi unit of Federation of Muslim Organisations (FMO) at a meeting held in Delhi on 14 February. Other office bearers of this Organisation were also elected on this occasion. It may be stated that FMO is a federation of more than 400 Muslim welfare organisations/associations whose aim is to work for the welfare of Muslims and to familiarise them with many central and state governments welfare schemes.


Chaudhary MATEEN AHMAD, Congress MLA from Seelampur assembly constituency (from where he won 4 times) and former chairman of Delhi Waqf Board has been appointed Vice Chairman of Delhi Jal Board. Another new appointment in this Board is that of ASIF MUHAMMAD KHAN, MLA from Okhla Jamia Nagar assembly constituency who has been appointed a Member of Delhi Jal Board.


Mrs SAJIDAH ZAHIDI, a student of Old Delhi has been conferred Ph D Degree by Devi Ahilya Indore University for her research work on ‘Role of Kings, Aristocrats and People in the Progress of Urdu Poetry in North India’ which she completed under the supervision of Dr. Khalil Ahmad Siddiqi. Before that she had done MA in Urdu as well as History.


Justice F.M. IBRAHIM KHLIFULLAH of Madras High Court has been transferred to Jammu & Kashmir High Court as a judge. This appears to be the stepping stone for his appointment as this High Court’s Chief Justice in place of the present Chief Justice Aftab Husain Saikia who retires on 6 April 2011.


AHMAD PATEL, political adviser to Congress Chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi and who is a Lok Sabha MP from Bharoach (Gujarat) who was appointed a member of Gujarat State Waqf Board by Narendra Modi government, has declined Modi’s offer.


FAIZ AHMAD KIDWAI, who is presently serving as Director in the President Secretariat has been appointed as the new Consul General of Indian Embassy in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Apart from other diplomatic assignments he is also responsible for Haj affair. Kidwai will replace S A Baba whose term ends in March this year.


MALIKA BEGUM, a promising Urdu student of Raza Post-Graduate College, Rampur has been conferred PhD degree by Ruhailkhand University for her research work titled Farhang-e Kulliyat-e Yagana which she completed under the supervision of Dr. Sayeeda Begum Rizvi, head of the college’s Urdu Department.
