AIMF to contest 80 seats in Assam

All India Minority Forum (AIMF) has on 11 January announced its decision to contest at least 80 seats out of the 126 assembly seats. With AIMF joining the poll fray the Muslims of Assam will now have more options besides Congress and the AIUDF. As a result Muslim votes in the state are likely to be divided many ways. SM Asif who is New Delhi-based president of the AIMF has said his party will not only fight against Congress and AIUDF but also against BJP and AGP. In Assam All India Minority Front has witnessed rise and fall in Assam. Earlier two of its member Abdul Hamid and AF Golam Osmani were elected as Member of Parliament. And once again the party wants to try its luck after having seen the performance of the AIUDF in past elections. Political analysts believe that AIMF decision to contest elections will eventually divide Muslims votes.
