Educational awareness conference and Mushaira

Darbhanga: An educational awareness conference and mushaira was held in Imgaon village of Bihar’s Madhubani district under the aegis of Social Services Trust on 2 May which was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Shakil Ahmad, former Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and others by lighting a candle. Dr. Shakil Ahmad said while speaking in this conference that when Allah sent His angel to our Prophet (pbuh) he first of all told him ‘Iqra’ (read). He added that our Prophet asked his followers to acquire knowledge from any source, even for this if one has to go to China. Other speakers like Al-Haj Ejaz Ahmad, Chairman of Madrasa Education Board, Patna, Maulana Azizur Rab Faizi, S.M. Ajmal Fareed etc. laid emphasis on acquisition of education and said that the main reason of backwardness of Muslims is lack of education and that in Islam great importance is given to education and knowledge. In this conference two cash prizes of Rs 10,000 each were given to Dr. Mansoor Khushtar who was honoured with Umar Farid Award for journalism and to Dr. Aqeel Ahmad Siddiqi who was honoured with Shakoor Ahmad Award for Social Services. Ejaz Ahmad said that knowledge is a very vast term and does not mean simply reading and writing. Nisar Ahmad said that acquisition of knowledge is incumbent on all men and women and if for its acquisition need is felt for selling one’s land, it should be sold for providing education and knowledge to children. At the end of the conference, a mushaira was held in which poets from India and Nepal recited their poems. (Nisar Ahmad)
