All’s not well in Modi’s Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Inspite of “vibrant Gujarat” chants among the NRIs; Gujarat’s health mission is in tatters. The dark reality was realised at a four day brain storming sessions held by the chief minister with 150 top most bureaucrats. Inspite of the astronomical rise in milk production (66%) every second child below five years is underweight. No district is free from mal nutrition. 16 out of 26 districts have 45-46 percent underweight children. 9 out of 12 tribal districts have 45 percent or more underweight children. Married women suffer from anaemia (55%), pregnant women (61%), adolescent girls (57%) and children (80%). Moreover, this rate is increasing at an alarming pace.
