Success against all odds

Ahmedabad's senior journalist Abdul Hafiz Lakhani's daughter Uzma (16) cracked the 'hard-nut' of Std. 10th in Gujarat State Education Board's Examination with 91% marks. Her success is more noteworthy as last March when her examination was about to start calamity fell on her family when her 14-year-old brother Muhammad Uzair met a fatal road accident and the whole family drowned in unfathomable gloom. But Uzma shows courage. She toiled hard and overcame all the pressures and succeeded by standing top in her school, Diwan Ballubhai in Paldi, Ahmadabad. Her father Abdul Hafiz Lakhani and mother Rashidabanu gave her inspiration. While writing her examination papers, Uzma was weeping remembering her late brother. Her parents were all the time assuring Uzma that her brother's rooh (spirit) was longing for her success in both worlds. Uzma says, I dedicate this great success to my brother. She intends to be a doctor for serving humanity at large. She says that while keeping full confidence in Allah, it has to be kept in mind that there is no substitute to hard work. Uzma is Hafiza of two and a half para of Qur'an and wants to memorise the whole Qur'an. She says that hard work, perseverance, dedication and commitment are the basics of success in any situation.
