Kashmir: HC notice to police for civilian killings

Srinagar: While acting on a petition filed by JKLF chief Yasin Malik the J&K High Court asked the Director General of Police to explain why FIR was not filed in case of 80 killings (out of 117 during the last summer). “The Director General of Police J&K shall inform this court about the present stage of investigation in 37 cases… The investigating officers of these cases be directed to file detailed status report informing the court about the steps taken during the investigation,” ordered a bench of Justices Muhammad Yaqub Mir and Mansur Ahmad Mir. The bench asked the DGP to inform the reasons for not filing the FIRs in the remaining 80 cases. Malik considered court intervention “as the only hope for justice to families.” The PIL requested the court to monitor the investigation.
