ZFI’s programme for awakening Indian Muslims

Lucknow: Zakat Foundation of India (ZFI) Chairman Dr. Syed Zafar Mahmood has demanded UP Chief Minister Mayaswati to issue a government order (GO) for the implementation of different schemes under Prime Minister’s 15-point programme for the welfare and development of minorities, particularly issuing instructions to district officers regarding appointment of Urdu teachers. He also cautioned central government about Muslims being mislead regarding implementation of Sachar Committee’s recommendations.

He said that some very important recommendations of Sachar Committee like starting Indian Waqf Services for the appointment of CEOs of Waqf Boards, appointment of Muslims for vacant posts under government’s discretionary powers, not reserving Muslim majority electoral constituencies for ST/SC candidates and so on have been withheld. He said that government has completely ignored the recommendation regarding setting up of Indian Waqf Service nor has made any other plan in its place. He said that he has collected many sets of information through RTI.

It may be stated in this connection that ZFI had started a 2 month training and awareness-creating workshop on 10 January for creating awareness among Muslims about government’s many schemes for their welfare and the ways of seeking information from government agencies through RTI. ZFI’s plan is to organise such training-cum-awareness functions in 14 cities of 10 states some of which have already been held.
