Madhya Pradesh: haven for tainted politicians

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha seems to be a haven for tainted politicians. The 230 strong assembly has 42 tainted legislators i.e. every fifth legislator has a criminal record. Not to be left behind even women too have joined the band wagon. There are seven such women legislators.

The offenders include two ministers, a former minister among the 42 who have a criminal past. Cases range from murder to kidnapping. Umashankar Gupta, home minister, made this disclosure in the assembly in reply to a question by a Congress MLA Ranvir Jatav. Ranjana Baghel, minister for women and child welfare, has the unique distinction of being arrested while in cabinet. She was later released. Another minister, Gaurishankar Bisen also has cases registered against him. Leader of the opposition, Jamuna Devi, too has charges against her.
