Hindu businessman builds a mosque

New Delhi: In a sincere gesture towards communal harmony, Cheryl Krishna Menon, an NRI from Qatar, is building a spacious mosque at Kozikode in Kerala. He claims this to be the first mosque built by a Hindu in the last 1200 years. The mosque would accommodate 400 devotees at one time. Ram Verma Kulshekhara, the Chera ruler, had built a mosque in 800 AD.

Menon is the chairman of Doha Group of Companies. He has obtained formal approval and legal consent of Muslim intellectuals and religious heads. He was honoured with Pravasi Bharatiya Samman (NRI award) in 2006 followed by Padmashri in 2009. Committed to religious harmony, he runs a Bhagwad Gita awareness programme in Tiruvananthpuram. He also intends to build a church followed by construction of a temple. He has already selected a site for the temple.
