Ishrat’s mother asks SIT to book 22 cops for kidnap and murder

Shamima Kausar, mother of Ishrat Jahan has asked the Special Investigation Team appointed by the Gujarat high court to probe Ishrat’s alleged encounter case to book 22 police officers alleged to have been involved in her fake encounter, for abduction and murder conspiracy.

Ishrat was killed along with three others in an alleged fake encounter in 2004. Mother of Ishrat Jahan claims that her daughter was abducted by Gujarat police before she was killed. Gujarat high court that had appointed SIT to re-investigate the case has asked the All India Institute of Medical Sciences forensic team to recreate Ishrat encounter for SIT. The forensic experts will visit the site where the encounter took place and recreate it for the SIT.

The experts will also prepare recreated scene in CD format that will be used by the SIT as evidence in the case. According to forensic expert member, “The experts will re-examine all the documents, including the post-mortem reports of the four people and begin their probe afresh. They will animate the scene and find out if there is any contradiction in the report already available with the Crime Branch of Gujarat Police.

The investigations are being conducted afresh and this is an important aspect to be looked into. As it’s been almost six years, exhumation is not possible.” The members of the SIT are believed to be at loggerheads as one among them has submitted an affidavit in the court that the investigation is being carried out in a biased manner.
