Greedy groom sent back empty-handed

New Delhi: On February 20, a greedy groom who was demanding dowry, was beaten along with the marriage party members. It is said that the marriage of the daughter of Muhammad Asim, a resident of Batla House here, was fixed with Parvez Asghar.

After the arrival of barat, when the Nikah ceremony was to be solemnized, family members of the groom reportedly laid the condition that unless one lakh rupees in cash and a car is provided as dowry, the marriage would not be solemnized.

On these demands, family members of the bride were taken aback. An exchange of hot words between the family members of the bride and groom took place which took such a serious turn that supporters of both parties resorted to physical fight. The place where shahnayee and marriage band were being played a short while ago turned into a battlefield. After the intervention of Jamia Nagar police the situation was brought under control. The groom and his family members had to flee for the safety of their lives without, of course, the bride. Parents of the bride filed a case of demanding dowry in the local police station.
