States on a lookout for 80 SIMI men after MHA alert

Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh are now in search of about 80 SIMI members following a recent alert sounded by the ministry of home affairs. According to the home ministry these men had been missing from their home town since the outfit was banned by the government in the year 2002.

Officials in the ministry also claim that these 80 SIMI members were usually staying out of UP and had been organising meetings at various places like Mumbai, Kerala, Karnataka, Ujjain, Indore, Lucknow and Azamgarh. Some of them are on the ATS radar and they are Kaleem Akhtar, Abdul Kareem, Mohammad Ali and Kamran of Lucknow and Misbahul Islam, Shah Alam, Abu Said, Khalid and Ata-ur-Rehman of Azamgarh.

It is also believed that they all had served on various posts in the national core team of SIMI, led by Safdar Nagori of Ujjain. ATS claims that most of them are living in different places under fake names and are again regrouping
