Wasil Khan of East Champaran district in Bihar who was wrongfully jailed for 10 years in the Amritsar Central Jail after he was falsely implicated by Punjab police in a bomb attack conspiracy wants damages.

Wasil Khan is now planning to file a petition in the HC for compensation. Wasil was detained by the Punjab police when he failed to give good reasons for his presence near the India-Pakistan border in Gurdaspur district. Wasil in an interview said, “There is complete silence in response to several applications I have filed under the RTI seeking names and other details of the police officers responsible for branding me a Pakistani and dumping me in jail.”

Local NGO has come in support of Wasil. Wasil was working as a helper on a truck which was going from Jammu and Kashmir to Delhi when he was detained by the police.
