ISI: mistaken identity

Raipur: Police and IB’s ‘Cry wolf’ mentality has totally conditioned their minds. Hence “ISI” instantly reminds them of Pakistan’s notorious agency. When Ilina Sen, wife of civil rights activists Binayak Sen, mentioned IsI, it made Chattisgarh special prosecutor TC Pandya to jump instantly to such a conclusion. “There is a chimpanzee in the white House” was for him a coded message. Ilina clarified ISI stood for the Indian Social Institute (on New Delhi’s Lodhi Road) and that Fernandez was not a spy as Pandya feared. Instead, Walter Fernandez was its former director (now in Guwahati). So the old bad joke, plane ab udne hi wala hai, was revived with a slightly different change - thanks to our fear psychosis.
