Dharna for Reservation

Mumbai: Malegaon-based Muslim Reservation Federation held a dharna in Azad Maidan to demand the implementation of the Mahmoodur Rahman Committee report by the first of November. If not, the organisers threatened to start a jail-bharo movement. MRF President Asif Shaikh Rasheed said that in May this year they had led a padyatra covering 300 kms from Malegaon to Mumbai and met the chief minister Prithvi Raj Chauhan who had promised to implement Mahmoodur Rahman report within a month to give reservation and free education to the backward Muslim in Maharashtra. But four months on, nothing has happened despite the fact that the said report is ready since last August. People from all over Maharashtra took part in the dharna which presented three demands to the government, viz., 1. Release Mahmoodur Rahman Report before the 1st of November this year; 2.  Give sub-reservation to Muslims on the basis of Sachar and Ranganath Misra reports, 3. give hundred-percent scholarships to Muslims from primary to professional education and reserve a quota for Muslims in government hostels.
