Kandhamal riots survivors want NIA probe

RSS leader Indresh Kumar apart from his alleged role in various bomb blasts has now been mentioned by the Survivors Association of Kandhamal (SAK) as one of the masterminds of the Kandhamal riots of 2007- 2008 in which Christians and their religious places were attacked.

The SAK in this regard met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, P Chidambaram and Digvijay Singh to press its demand for a probe into the riots by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Christian leaders and the survivors have alleged terror suspects Indresh Kumar, Swami Aseemanand and Lt Col Shrikant Purohit as the masterminds of the Kandhamal riots. SAK believes that the situation was normal even after the murder of Lakshmananda Saraswati. The attack on Christians began only after Indresh Kumar visited the area for Saraswati’s cremation. SAK leader Ajay Kumar Singh said, “There are news reports about Kumar’s involvement in various bomb blasts. He had visited Kandhamal soon after the Swami’s murder. He had also written in an RSS mouthpiece that Christians killed the Swami. We believe he has masterminded the attacks against Christians in Kandhamal.” Military intelligence after interrogating Lt Colonel Purohit has in its report said that not only Muslims, Purohit team went after Christians too. According to the report, Abhinav Bharat also targeted Christians at Kandhamal in Orissa, Karnataka, Pune, Jabalpur and Bhopal.  Purohit key aide Sameer Kulkarni is alleged to have killed two Christians in Orissa in the year 2008

All India Christian Council leader John Dayal in a letter to the Union home minister said, “Despite two fast-track courts, more than two-thirds of the cases tried have ended in acquittals. Among the accused is a BJP MLA who continues to roam free despite a Supreme Court order cancelling his bail.” The letter further said, “Police records confirmed his involvement in anti-Christian riots in Pune, Jabalpur and Bhopal. Lt Col Purohit admitted that two Christians were killed in Orissa in August 2008 by one Sameer Kulkarni at the behest of Abhinav Bharat. The Military Intelligence has also linked these people with Aseemanand.”
