Sweetness of Urdu appreciated in Europe

New Delhi: A function was held in Aiwan-e Ghalib on 18 March to welcome Yawar Abbas, writer, poet, intellectual who is associated with BBC London for about 40 years. Speaking on this occasion he said that the sweetness and beauty of Urdu language is appreciated in Europe also because it is popular in European countries.

He has produced many dramas and documentaries and showed one of his documentaries titled India means India in this meeting. Many of his dramas and documentaries have been shown on the screen. Introducing him to the audience, Dr. Raza Haider who was conducting the proceedings of the function said that he (Yawar Abbas) is a famous author, poet and author of many books who is associated with BBC for about 40 years.

He has also translated many dramas of Shakespeare into Urdu. Born and bred in Lucknow, he migrated to England about 50 years ago and is now a British citizen. Dr. Raza Haider said that he is one of those writers and intellectuals who are living in Britain for years and rendering great services to Urdu language and literature through their writings.
