Outright condemnation of the Israeli terrorism

New Delhi: India joined the whole world in condemnation of Israel’s criminal attack on ships carrying humanitarian assistance and relief to the beleaguered people of Gaza Strip who are reeling under Israel’s territorial and naval blockade for the past four years. Protest demonstrations were held in many cities and towns of India including a number of protests in Delhi alone.

Protest against the Israeli attack on Gaza flotilla, Mumbai, 3 June

On 31 May as a flotilla of six ships carrying about 10000 tonnes of essential supplies and about 700 volunteers from dozens of countries was on its way to Gaza, Israel’s navy intercepted and attacked it while it was still in the international waters which is a crime under international law. In the brutal and uncalled for attack, as many as 20 persons, including nine Turkish nationals died and about 30 were injured. The fleet which was being led by the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara was forcibly taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod.

This unprovoked attack on aid ships by Israel drew sharp reaction in India by government, people and many organistiaons, particularly Muslim leaders and organisations. India’s foreign affairs ministry in a statement deplored the attack and the tragic loss of human lives. While condemning the attack, it said that there can be no justification for such indiscriminate and uncalled for use of force.

Jamaat-e Islami Hind President Maulana Jalaluddin Umri while condemning the attack on the flotilla which was also carrying in addition to supplies, persons including a Nobel Laureate, MPs and scientists etc., said that this is the worst kind of aggressiveness and violation of international rules and deserves to be condemned in strongest terms. He called upon the Indian government to strongly condemn it and pressurise Israel to end the siege of Gaza.
Jami’atul Ulama-e Hind chief Qari Muhammad Usman Mansoorpuri while strongly condemning the attack said that with this attack Israel has once again proved that it damn cares about international laws and world community’s opinions. He demanded the Indian government as well as UN and international community to take immediate and strong action against Israel to compel it to end Gaza’s siege. He asked the Indian government to reconsider its relations with Israel.

Delhi Masjid Fatehpuri’s Shahi Imam Dr. Mufti Mukarram Ahmad while strongly condemning the Israeli attack said that in today’s world there can be no bigger brutality when the unarmed and famished people of Palestine are struggling between life and death on the one hand and on the other hand Israel is bent upon letting loose its barbarism on poor and helpless people.

Maulana, Asrarul Haque Qasmi, MP and President of Talimi and Milli Foundation, described Israel’s act as open anti-humanitarian act and expressed his anger and surprise that no steps are being taken to stop Isreal’s cruelties.
Former President of all India Muslim Majlis Mushawarat and editor of Milli Gazette Dr. Zafarul-Islam Khan said while speaking on this occasion that Israel should be tried by International Court of Justice for this and other crimes. He added that issuing a small statement against Israel by United Nations is not enough.

Delhi Jama Masjid’s Imam Maulana Syed Ahmad Bukhari while describing Israel as a stooge of America said that the Indian government’s anti-Muslim policy has so much progressed that now it is no longer in a position to differentiate between the oppressor and the oppressed. He called upon Muslim countries to have faith in God instead of having faith in America and to use oil as a tool against America, Israel and other anti-Muslim countries. He said that Muslims all over the world are united against Israel but it is a pity that Muslim and Arab countries at the behest of America have become slaves of Israel. He prayed for the success of Palestinian freedom fighters.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind in a statement issued on 1 June strongly condemned the attack by Israeli forces on a flotilla in international water carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (President), termed the attack as barbaric and inhuman. He said that “Israel by this act has showed that it neither respects international law nor cares for world opinion. The Ameer Jamaat demanded the government of India to strongly condemn this barbaric attack and call upon Israel to immediately lift the inhuman Gaza siege.”

Popular Front of India strongly condemned the military attack on Freedom Flotilla in the international waters which, it said, “is a violation of international law and constitute war against humanity. It once again shows that the Zionist state which acts with the support of US will adopt any barbaric means to fulfill its racist agenda of terminating the Palestinian people from their home land.”

In addition to the above leaders, almost all Muslim institutions and other important leaders like prominent Shia leaders Haider Abbas Nauganvi, Shia Waqf Board member Maulana Jalal Naqvi, Muslim Political Council President Tasleem Ahmad Rahmani, All India Tanzeem Ulama-e-Haq’s President Maulana Ejaz Urfi Qasmi, Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e Hadees leader Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mehdi Salfi, India Islamic Cultural Centre’s President Sirajuddin Qureshi and Vice-President Safdar Husain Khan, etc condemned Israel’s criminal act and policies.
