Secret documents cast aspersions on Muslims
By Muhammad Arif Rizvi

According to a news published in different newspapers of Mumbai on 9 February, Muslims living in slum areas of Ganesh Nagar, Gita Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar of Colaba are anti-national. These Muslims have the support of Congress and Samajwadi Party leaders and these leaders allegedly have connections with Dawood Ibrahim Abu Salim.

In a joint Press conference at BJP’s office at Nariman Point some documents were handed over to Press correspondents one of which was also a secret document pertaining to national security which was sent by military Headquarters to Dy. Police Commissioner RM Kedari of Mumbai. The above news item was based on this secret document which is dated 4 July 2000.

The question now arises as to how BJP got hold of this secret document which was meant for the Police department and why it was released after 1 ½ years on the eve of Mumbai Municipal elections when the election campaigns were to come to an end? Obviously the motive was to take political mileage by the BJP on the eve of elections but this step was fraught with danger. This could have led to riots and a law and order problem on the eve of elections.

The Police Commissioner and Home Department should take a serious note of this dangerous step and look into the matter very closely and urgently.

Muhammad Arif Rizvi is the Secretary of Raza Academy, Mumbai
