In suspected dowry death, Bihar Police not even registering case

New Delhi (19 December 2014): Five months into a wedding, Chandni was allegedly murdered by her in-laws at Village Madhavpur (Amba Koti), Piprahi police station in Sheohar district of Bihar.

According to the bride’s family, she was allegedly poisoned to death on 27th November. She was cremated in a hush without even informing her family.

Chandni and Dharmender got married on 12 June 2014 in Delhi. A few days after marriage Dharmender took Chandni to Sheohar in Bihar, his native place. On the night of 26th November, Chandni talked to her family in Delhi and mentioned she wanted to come back to Delhi and will take a train the next day.

Next morning Chandni's family got news from relatives in Bihar that Chandni had died of consuming poison and had also been cremated. Chandni’s family belongs to Sitamarhi District in Bihar.

Upon hearing the news, Chandni's brother Ajay Kumar smelt foul and lodged an FIR at New Friends Colony police station, in south Delhi and left for Bihar immediately.

On reaching there Dharmender’s family did not even talk to him and instead said that they don’t even know who Chandni was and what Ajay was talking about.

The wedding was not going fine as it turned out that Dharmender was an alcoholic. And the groom’s family was not allowing the bride to visit her parents in Delhi. Chandini’s mother spoke to the groom brother in Delhi earlier about this. He said if you people have problem, pay us the money we spent on the wedding and take back your daughter forever.

The local police at Piprahi police station and Panchayat of Village Madhavpur did not help Ajay. Ajay spent the whole night at the police station requesting action. Police officials refused to entertain any request or complaint for investigation of circumstances of Chandni's death.

The bride’s brother, Ajay, works in Delhi, he says he does not know which door to knock to get justice for his sister.  He can be reached on 0-9818282625.
