SANIYASNAIN KHAN of New Delhi, author of many books for children has been honoured with Sharja Children’s Book Award on his book ‘Story of Khadija’. This Award consists of 15000 Emirate Dirham (approximately Rs 2 lakh). The Award was given to him at a function ‘Book Forum of Expo Centre’ held at Sharja on 4 May.   Dr MOHSIN WALI, a social worker who has already been honoured by Indian government with Padma Shri Award was honoured with President’s Gold Medal for the year 2011-12 by President Pranab Mukherjee in recognition of his valuable social and medical services.   TAIYAB SHIEKH, a student of Y. S. Arts & Commerce College in Panchmahals District (Gujarat)’s Devgadh Baria town won two medals for Sanskrit. Another Muslim student, (Ms) YASMIN BANU of Adiwasi Arts & Commerce College in Santrampur in tribal belt of Gujarat also won the third medal for Sanskrit instituted by Gujarat University for the BA course in Sanskrit. Both these students want to do M A in Sanskrit and become Sanskrit teachers.   KHWAJA RAZMI YUNUS, Joint Secretary of Eram Educational Society and Mg Director of Eram Medical College has been honoured by U P government with Shiksha Ratn Award in recognition of his valuable services for the promotion of education.   M. AFZAL, a noted journalist and former Indian diplomat and M.P. has been honoured by Nepal’s Anjuman Irtiqa Urdu Adab with its ‘Himaliyaee Urdu Adab Award 2013’, for journalism. The Award, consisting of a cash prize of Rs 25000, a shawl and Commendation Certificate, was presented to him at the Indo-Nepal mushaira held in Kathmandu on 13 April. This Award was started in Nepal in 2010 and has so far been given to Dr Malikzada Manzoor Ahmad, Prof Anwar Jalalpuri, Dr Newaz Dev Bandi and Dr Kaleem Qaisar.   NAND KISHORE VIKRAM, prominent author, novelist, fiction writer and journalist has been selected by the jury or panel of judges headed by Prof Gopi Chand Narang for being honoured with 17th Majlis Farogh-e Urdu Adab, Doha (Qatar)’s Award 2013. Author of more than 50 literary works in the fields of novel, fiction etc, this Award, consisting of Rs 1½ lakh, Gold Medal, Scroll of Honour will be given to him for his popular novel Unneswaan Adhyay (Nineteenth Chapter) (which is published in Pakistan also) in particular and in recognition of his overall literary and creative services in general.   DANISH IQBAL, Head of FM Gold channel in All India Radio, was honoured with Gandhian Philosophy Award’ on 17 April by All India Radio at its annual award function. Surprisingly, he was suspended only a week back on 10 April pending an enquiry regarding complaints by some radio jockeys about sexual harassment, not against him personally but against some AIR employees working under him. Higher authorities of AIR and Prasar Bharti made it absolutely clear that Iqbal’s suspension was certainly not because of complaint and enquiry against him personally but since he was administrative incharge of this channel, his temporary absence (suspension) will ensure transparent enquiry into the complaint of sexual harassment by his staff. It may be stated in this connection that Danish Iqbal has been honoured with this Award seven times and many other awards also earlier.   Mrs SEEMA SAGHIR, Urdu teacher in AMU’s Urdu Department and noted litterateur has been honoured by Urdu-Hindi Awards Committee with Sahitya Shri Urdu Adab Award in recognition of her overall literary services and promotion of national harmony. The Award was presented to her by U.P. Governor B. L. Joshi in a function held at Lucknow on 9 April on the occasion of 24th International Literary celebrations.   RAZA AMROHVI, poet and litterateur has been honoured by Karnal Bazm-e Adab with Maulana Altaf Husain Hali Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his valuable service to literature.   Madhya Pradesh’s Urdu Academy’s Awards Committee has selected HAQQANI AL QASMI, a noted Urdu critic and author of about a dozen books who is associated with Rashtriya Sahara Urdu for being honoured with its ‘Hakeem Qamrul Hasan All India Award 2012’ in recognition of his valuable services in the field of journalism. In addition to him, another critic, Prof SADIQ will be honoured with Academy’s ‘Meer Taqi Meer All India Award’ for creative literature. Both these awards consist of cash prize of Rs. 31000 and certificate each. For the year 2013 the Academy’s ‘Hakeem Qamrul Hasan All India Award 2013 will be given to Hasan Kamal, prominent journalist and intellectual who also is associated with Rashtriya Sahara Urdu, Mumbai   SHABANA AZMI, film actress and social worker along with Janoo Barua and a few others has been honoured by Limca Book of Records’ 24th Edition with ‘People of the Year Award’ on the occasion of completion of 100 years of Indian Cinema.
