MAULANA ABDUR RAHEEMwho completed Kamil Saqafi course from South India’s famous religious-cum-modern Islamic University, Jamia Markaz Al Saqafat Al Sunniya in 2009 and thereafter took admission in AMU’s Malappuram Centre’s MA (Arabic) secured first position and also topped in the entire University. For this and other achievements he was awarded 4 Gold Medals by the University. It may be stated that a student of Markaz Al Saqafat Al Sunniya, Calicut who gets a certificate of Kamil Saqafi is considered eligible for admission in MA-Arabic in AMU which recognises Calicut Centre’s certificates. (Dr.) Prof. SHARIF AHMAD QURAISHIAssociate Professor and Chief Proctor of Raza PG College has been honoured by Bihar Urdu Academy with an Award which consists of Rs 7500. In addition to this he has also been honoured with other awards by Bihar and UP Urdu academies and U P government’s ‘Shikshak Shri Samman’. So far his 14 books have been published and many more are under publication. , hockey player is among the 14 sports persons who have been recommended by the Select Committee for being honoured with awards likeKhel Ratn, Arjun Award etc. Saba Anjum has been selected and recommended by this Committee for being honoured with Arjun Award for hockey.                     A photo by Urdu daily Inqilab’s senior photographer SYED SAMIR AABDI exhibited in a national level photographic competition held in Mumbai was adjudged the Best Photo. As many as 5760 photographs by professional as well as amateur photographers from all over the country were exhibited in this competition of whom the one by Syed Samir Aabadi, as stated above, was selected the Best Photograph. This photograph shows the very busy and hustle and bustle life of Mumbai. The awards for selected photographs were given away by Thane’s Mayor Maheshwar Patel. USTAD ABDUR RASHID KHAN, Padma Vibushan, famous classical musician and Mrs Anjali Ila Menon, Padma Shri, famous artist and painter were honoured by Delhi government with Lifetime Achievement AWard 2013 at a function jointly sponsored by Delhi government’s Department of Languages and Sahitya Kala Parishad at Kamani Auditorium on 11 August. Ustad Abdur Rashid Khan, aged 105 years, is an expert in khayal,dhamal, thumri, dhrupad and in addition to all this he is also a noted poet and author. The Award, consisting of a cheque of Rs 11 lakh and a certificate each, was given to them by chief minister Mrs Shiela Dikshit at a function held on 11 August. President of India, Pranab Mukherji honoured a total of 128 scholars of classical languages Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit and Pali Prakrit with Presidential Award on the occasion of India’s 67th Independence Day on 15 August. Among the scholars of Persian are Prof (Dr) QAMAR GHAFFAR (of Jamia Millia Islamia) and M. H. SIDDIQI. The three scholars of Arabic who were honoured with Presidential Award are MUHAMMAD AZIMUDDIN, PROF ZIKRUR RAHMAN and Prof AHMAD NASEEM SIDDIQI. As many as 15 scholars of Sanskrit were honoured with Presidential Award on this occasion. In addition to above, BISHOP ANWAR ALI, Persian scholar and Dr ASHFAQ AHMAD, Arabic scholar along with many Sanskrit scholars were honoured with Maharishi Badrayan Vyas Samman on this occasion.  
Jharkhand governor Dr Syed Ahmad presented the best creative fiction award in the form of a memento to the Urdu fiction writer Dr Akhtar Azad on 19 August. He also released Dr Azad’s latest noevl "Laminated Girl". Dr Azad has received many awards for his writings including the Saadat Hasan Manto Award for young talent in Urdu in September 2012.                       DR. ZAKIR NAIK
received the Dubai International Holy Qur’an Award for The Islamic Personality of the year 1434H last month in Dubai. The award committee headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Makhtoum, The Vice President of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has appreciated Dr Zakir Naik’s service to Islam in particular and humanity at large. The award was presented to him in a ceremony in Dubai on 20 Ramadaan (29 July 2013).
